For curriculum develop projects, we use the ADDIE model, a gold-standard for adult learning design. The basic approach is to determine the current state of the target learner, the end goal of the learning, and then develop a program to support the learner to attain and apply the desired knowledge. This approach ensures that the curriculum aligns with the intended learning goals. We also integrate common Indigenous learning approaches into the design process, for example including storytelling, inter-generational learning, and learning from experience. There are five stages included the ADDIE approach:
- Analysis: Determine the current learning needs of the target audience, and the learning goals of the program.
- Design: Create an outline or blueprint of the learning program and determine delivery format.
- Development: Create the learning solution to bring learners from the current state to the desired end state.
- Implementation: The learning program is delivered to learners.
- Evaluation: Assess whether the learner program has allowed learners to meet the desired learning objectives, and if not what needs to be adjusted.
